Sit here. Eat.

The book I’m reading at the moment had this poem in it – I’ve read it before, but it was good to get re-acquainted.

I don’t have anything else exciting to say today. Happy Wednesdays.

Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the others welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

having just arrived on the last drops of my glass of red,
    I must gush !
I wish for more time in the day to read through blogrolls and lives ,
but your words here, the stones , the links, how can something just fall into a life
I can’t wait to return, you bless
And this poem, ( not yours , but ) it belongs on my beginnings of a writing site. How does that work, new to this and all, do I just quote it, credit it, borrow it… ??
    thank you
    read you again soon

    DJ – blush 😉

deb – welcome! Strictly speaking I suppose we ought to get permission to reprint poems – I didn’t for this one, just found it somewhere else on the web. Let us know when you start your site!
